Harold Johnson Calls on Larry Kissell to Repudiate Steny Hoyer’s Support for Middle Class Tax Increases, Questions Campaign Contributions

Johnson says Kissell’s views in lockstep with Washington leadership, not 8th District

Concord, North Carolina (August 26, 2010) - Harold Johnson, Republican nominee for the 8th Congressional District of North Carolina, called on Larry Kissell to repudiate Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s support for middle class tax increases after Hoyer’s appearance in Charlotte with Kissell at a fundraiser.  Johnson questions Kissell’s accepting of Hoyer’s help, while at the same time trying to distance himself from the failed leadership of Washington Democrats.  In a speech in July, Hoyer said that middle class tax cuts “should not be permanent”. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/21/AR2010062104708.html)

“While the Democrats in Congress continue to spend money we don’t have and fail to produce an acceptable climate for jobs, Larry has attempted to make the case that he is his own man.  By appearing with and supporting the Majority Leader, he is showing us all that simply isn’t the case” said Johnson. “As I talk with folks across the District, people are telling me that their number one concern is jobs and the economy.  It’s time Washington starts listening to the people and not the special interests.”

Johnson also criticized Kissell for his overwhelming percentage of total campaign contributions from special interests groups, totaling 75%.  Kissell was joined by Hoyer at a fundraiser specifically for special interests at an uptown Charlotte trial lawyer’s office.

Johnson added “When Larry was running for Congress in 2006 and 2008, he promised to fight the special interests in Washington.  Yet since he was sworn in, all he’s done is take their money and refuse to listen to his constituents back home. It is time to put an end to business as usual in Washington and send Larry Kissell home.”
