Harold Johnson has been proud to call North Carolina home since 1958. He graduated from Statesville Senior High School and earned his degree in Economics from Lenoir Rhyne University. Harold is a proud Marine and served at Camp Lejeune where he was an expert rifleman and honorably discharged. He spent over three decades as an award-winning broadcast journalist on TV and radio for WSOC Channel 9 and WBT 1110 where he was tagged "The Big Guy." Harold served as Channel 9's Sports Anchor and Director, and was a 4-time EMMY winner as the Mid-South's Sportscaster of the Year. He retired from WSOC in 2006.
Harold met his lovely wife, Linda, in Statesville and they were married for 44 years before losing her to cancer. Harold and Linda have three children and nine precious grandchildren. Harold enjoys outdoor activities and gardening, and is a sports enthusiast for all of his grandchildren's events. He is an avid reader and history buff. Harold is a Christian and his faith is deep-rooted.
I am honored to have the opportunity to ask for your support in representing North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District. In over 30 years in broadcasting I have been able to get to know many of you and the issues that matter most to you and your families. As I travel the District and visit folks, I know that our District, like the rest of the nation, is struggling. By running for Congress, I now have a chance to support the people that supported me on the air for over 30 years. If you send me to Washington, it will be my top priority to bring jobs and opportunity to our backyard. I promise to fight against wasteful government spending and higher taxes. I will defend our Constitution and together we can restore the conservative values that made our nation great.

Harold. Suggested campaign slogan. Tell people that you want to “Put America back in America.” My family and I and many friends are supporting you. We have been told many times over the years that the election at hand is the most important in history. Well, this time it is true. Here’s hoping for your election and many others like you.

I lived in Charlotte and remember Harold when I played football for West Charlotte Senior High School back in 1985. I am now retired from the Army with 24 yrs living in Fayetteville, NC. It was good to hear his commercial and hear that a Christian is running for Congress. Good luck, you’ll have my vote!
Good luck Mr. Johnson.
Good luck Harold! You taught me a lot about sports! The Anderson family is supporting you here in Raleigh!
Congratulations “Big Guy”
I hope you win it all. By the way since retiring from the airline industry, I served two years as a loan officer, got bored and now I am a police officer. Can you believe it ? Will we still be able to play golf?
Good luck and go Hounds (and Bears).

When working as the team physician for the Charlotte Hornets I was frequently interviewed by Harold. He always understood the real issues much better than other reporters and always presented them fairly. There is no question that Harold will be an effective leader in Congress.
I served in the Marine Corps as well and retired in 2006. I am both glad and relieved that Harold Johnson is a real conservative and running against the socialist/elitests in Washington. I will do everything that I can to help you achieve victory in November. God Bless and Semper Fidelis!!
Everyone remember, that a “vote for Kissell, is a vote for Pelosi” as Kissell voted for Pelosi to be Speaker of the House.
Mr Johnson–We are having a festival in Norman North Carolina– upper Richmond County If you would like to have a booth contact me by e-mail–Best of luck–Thanks-KB
I watched Harold for many years on Channel 9 while growing up and living in McDowell County. Now I’m living in northern Virginia, working three blocks from Capitol Hill. I am delighted that The Big Guy is willing and ready to serve my home state in Congress. I wish him a fine campaign and a November victory. I look forward to stopping by and giving him a personal congratulatory handshake this coming January.
I just happen to stumble on this page and it is a good written read, a little on the short side, but a fairly sufficient one.
I really adore the layout too, it is very very easy to navigate.
